Show Information for the October 15, 2011, Waukee Marching Invitational
Entry
The field will be limited to the first 17 bands to enter, as determined by the postmark on the envelope in which the entry is received. Entries are open to bands located in the state of Iowa. Bands will be classified in accordance with Iowa High School Music Association rules. All classes are eligible to enter.
Senior Recognition and Review
Recognizing that for many senior students, participation in the Waukee Marching Invitational will mean participation in their last judged competition in High School, we at Waukee want to make this night a special one. At the conclusion of the exhibitions, seniors from all participating bands will be asked to take the field in rank. Seniors will remain on the field as awards are given to Drum Majors and Color Guard Captains.
Awards
Trophies will be awarded to each participant in accordance with their finish within and by their class. Additional trophies in each class will be awarded for Best Drum Major(s), Best Drum Line, and Best Color Guard.
The Waukee Handicap Trophy
In addition, your band may or may not choose to participate in the tally for the Waukee Handicap trophy. The Waukee Handicap trophy will be awarded to the best participating band receiving the highest point total based on the following criteria:
Two scores achieved in the 2011 Marching Season will be verified and considered. You may decide which two scores to consider, including a score achieved in State judging earlier that day. All scores will be adjusted on the basis of a 100 point maximum. The two scores will be averaged together and handicap points will be awarded based on 80% of the difference between the averaged score and 90. The handicap points will be combined with the score achieved in the Waukee Marching Invitational. The winner will be the band with the most points.
For instance: A band that decides to participate submits two verifiable scores: 69.3 (100 point base) and 86.4 (120 point base). The two scores average to 70.65 (100 point base). The band’s handicap would be 15.48. Assuming the band achieved a score of 73.2 that night, the bands total for calculating the Handicap winner would be 86.13. There will be one winner and one trophy awarded. Participation is OPTIONAL as indicated on your entry.
