Welcome to the Brookview Elementary Fifth Grade Band!

 Band meets on Day 2 and Day 6 from 2:45 – 3:30.

Students have a 20 minute band lessons on Day 2, 4 or 6.  The schedule is posted in the band room and in each classroom.

For Band you will need your instrument, Essential Elements 2000 lesson book, band folder, a pencil and a positive attitude!

Our performances this year include the:

  • 5th Grade Band/Chorus Winter Assembly

  • Band Solo Night on Thursday, February 18, 2010

  • Individual performances at Brookview from 3:45-5:45 PM

  • 5th Grade Fine Arts Night on Thursday, April 15, 2010
6:30 performance at the High School Auditorium

Curriculum in band at all lessons will focus on learning proper fundamentals for performing on an instrument both physically and technically.

Students will learn a solid foundation of performance fundamentals including tone production, rhythm, blend, balance, intonation, dynamics, articulation, musicianship, rehearsal behavior, and the importance of practicing.

Band is a team where no one sits on the bench!

EVERYONE is important!

We need all players to be respectful of each other

and focused on learning.

Our band is successful when every member gives 100%.

We all need to play at home to gain confidence in our talent!

The responsibilities for a beginning band student include attending large group band, attending lessons, practicing at home, and taking care of their instruments.

We gain confidence in this new skill by playing at home.  Making time for daily practice of long tones, book exercises, and band music, helps us improve as individuals and as a team!

We’ll write practice minutes in the chart in front of our lesson books.  Aim for 15 minutes each day!  A little effort each day REALLY helps our band achieve great things!

When you join a team, we hope you stick it out for the whole season.  Maybe you’re getting frustrated and playing a band instrument is not what you thought it would be like.

If you and your family decide not to continue, please communicate with Ms. Meyer.

Let’s have a great year making music together!
